@the.tired.dad: *This is audio of my daughter from about four years ago while I was out of town. 🥺 I do not know if this was talked about or even felt in previous generations, but I can speak for the modern father. The millennial father. This is felt every day. We hear the old narratives. The mental load. The comments about how work is rest. The idea that traveling for work must be nice. But that is not what the modern dad wants anymore. He wants more time with his kids. The weight of needing to provide financially while missing moments is heavy. It is heartbreaking for fathers today. So we look for ways to be home more. We try to build businesses. We search for work from home. We look at moving to lower cost areas. We cut back and try to live below our means so we can buy back time. The optimism in me believes there is a way forward for fathers who set that intention early. When you begin parenthood with presence in mind, especially while your kids are still young, you give yourself a chance to be home more as they grow. Keep showing up.
