@jessnuremberg: Replying to @inthegardenwithkat CMV is a common virus that most people never realize they carry. Around 70% to 90% percent of adults are CMV positive. When you are choosing a sperm donor, this matters. If you are CMV positive, you can safely choose a donor who is positive or negative. But if you are CMV negative, you cannot use a CMV positive donor because it raises the risk of a primary CMV infection during pregnancy, which clinics work hard to prevent. Knowing your CMV status before looking at donor profiles helps you avoid choosing someone you will not be medically cleared to use. #singlemombychoice #smbc #donorselection #cmvtesting
I just donated my kidney to a 47 year old lady who was negative for cmv. but they never told me ever about having cmv and bk positive. but they told her in the beginning before the surgery. but I still was never told so I could have said no. if I didn't want to pass both the viruses on to her. they said that I didn't need to know.
