You loved my laundry product ranking and asked how to actually use everything, so here’s the quick guide. Go to WASH.TIPS (my free website) for more info Chlorine bleach: I’d skip it. The risk usually outweighs the reward. If you must, dilute it per the label, use the bleach compartment, and run a cleaning cycle after. Laundry sanitizers disinfect and oxygen bleach whitens, so you have better options. Laundry sanitizer: Fabric softener slot, with a rinse cycle of at least 16 minutes. Or soak in 1 gallon of cold water with 2 capfuls for 15 minutes, then rewash. Enzymatic stain remover: Apply a small amount directly to the stain and blot it in with up and down motions, not side to side. Let it sit at least an hour, ideally overnight. Enzymes need time to digest stains. I keep a bottle on my hamper and pretreat as soon as clothes come off. Scent beads: Into the drum before the clothes. White vinegar: Fabric softener slot. It dissolves leftover detergent and minerals that make clothes feel crunchy. Acidic rinse products go in the same slot and use citric acid, which works even better. Straight into the drum: Baking soda, Calgon, borax, washing soda, powdered oxygen bleach, and powdered enzymatic boosters. Soaking: Enzymatic boosters and powdered oxygen bleach work even better as a soak. Oxygen bleach needs hot water, ideally 140°F/60°C. Give it a few hours or overnight, then wash. 3% hydrogen peroxide: Spray on stubborn stains and air dry indoors in the shade. UV plus peroxide causes yellowing. Repeat if needed. Washable fabrics only, and test a hidden spot first. Detergent: Dosing depends on water hardness, load size, and how dirty things are. Start at 1 tbsp for a small load in soft water. A dirty medium load in hard water might need 3 to 4 tbsp. European detergents include a dosing chart. America needs to catch up. #Laundry #Cleaning #LaundryTips
