7 herpes myths people argue with me about in the comments. Settling all of them here. 1. Oral herpes doesn't need disclosing, only genital does. Same virus, different address, but only one of those addresses carries shame. 2. That double standard exists even though frequent cold sores are often worse symptomatically than genital HSV-1. Painful, visible, right on your face, and nobody blinks. Move the same virus a few inches south and it's suddenly a life sentence. The shame was never about symptoms. It's about location. 3. You're only contagious during an outbreak. The virus sheds without symptoms too, which is exactly why disclosure matters in the first place. 4. Which means people assume they'd know if they had it. Most don't have constant symptoms. Plenty carry it and never find out. 5. Even a doctor's visit won't catch it. Herpes isn't on a standard STI panel unless you request it.

It can lay dormant for decades before activating. You could wait until marriage and still test positive. You could sleep with a hundred people and never catch it. Timing tells you nothing.
