What’s odd is the story is long, 430 chapters, 8 seasons, and yet it still feels too short. I was expecting all 3 of their high school years, not just the first.

The problem is horikoshi someone who has shown a lot of conservative beliefs who lives in a society where the status quo is loved(Japan) is trying to speak on systemic issues but the problem is he doesn't know how someone would properly address systemic issues.

i belive this is why theres soo much mha fanfiction too. believe it or not a huge portion of it is just people exploring these themes that were abandoned by horikoshi. like i know people outside that part of fandom think its all just shipping and pay gorn but fans yearn for the depth laking in the og story

I feel this is a great example pf a mid anime. Thw setting is interesting, it has appealing characters, the action is really good, Id argue even the characters are endearing and interesting, but it falls incredibly short of what it sets out to do and it all feels kinda pointless in the end

Don’t understand why the story couldn’t take place over the years of class 1-A. Year 1 should have ended with the Nomu vs All Might Fight. S2 is the second year/ festival. S3 is the summer training leading into their 3rd year. Vigilante Deku should have been his first year outside UA so he understands WHY heroes quit after losing public support. It makes him distancing himself so much better 😭

I saw a comment somewhere say mha is like if horikoshi was trying to write an anti cop story that was critical of the prison industrial complex and then remembered half way thru that the protagonists were supposed to be cops

They introduced such an interesting concept with Lady Nagant and Hawks too, showing an underside/ dark spot of the hero system in which they produce and raise assassins who eliminate those who the top brass of hero society deem as a threat to their system, yet they only scratch the surface of it. Never really going deeper into that aspect of hero society and only doing the bare minimum for Nagant’s desertion of said society.

Also because of the way quirks are utilized in this series it ends up reinforcing this idea that you are only able to contribute to your community and tangibly affect change to that community if you have a quirk (are able-bodied) and if you do not have a quirk (are disabled) you better hope someone comes around and fixes that for you so you can actually be useful. that, and the only way to stop a bad guy with a quirk is with a good guy with a quirk
