I did not have TMR or RPNI. My surgeon said ‘let’s save that if you have problems’. At first I was not happy because it seems like that is the best option… but I’ve had no problems at all and am so glad for that. But my surgeon was also a plastic surgeon so he did some good work.

You have summed up my pain exactly.I had TMR surgery and my nerve/ phantom pains are almost unbearable to the point I’m having to take controlled drugs to help with the pain and that’s not really helping.

For those following or considering the same surgery… I had mine in July. The biggest variable you can control is your anesthesia. My anesthesiologist said they have better outcomes doing a nerve block (spinal) and conscious sedation. This doesn’t mean you remember it, it just means they block the pain then send you to happy land for a while. From the moment I came to after surgery I never had serious pain. The odd zap at the beginning but nothing ‘phantom’. I am either very lucky or the anesthesiologist knew something.
