My water heater is 45 years old. Periodically I have to vacuum out the lime scale that build up and burn out the bottom element. About every 4 to 5 years. Then it quit. I realized the thermostats change in time and quit. So just recently I bought a hot water kit at Lowe’s for $35 and it replaces both thermostats and both elements and I’m good for another 5 years
