The Qur’an repeatedly links Mary, the mother of Jesus, to figures from the Exodus by calling her the “sister of Aaron” and the “daughter of Imran.” But in the Bible, Aaron’s sister is Miriam, not Mary, and she lived over 1,400 years before Jesus. Mary’s actual father in early Christian tradition is Joachim, not Amram/Imran, who is the father of Moses and Aaron. This creates a serious historical problem: the Qur’an appears to merge two different women—Mary and Miriam—into one family line. Muslim defenses appeal to symbolic lineage or reused names, but there is no evidence in Jewish or Christian history that Mary was ever identified with Aaron’s household. This suggests confusion, not clarification, of earlier scripture.
