@martinlewismse: The surprise on the audience faces when I revealed the investment return (circa 2mins) was a sight to see. This is only a snippet. Please watch the full 'beginners guide to investing' Martin Lewis Money Show Live on ITVX for full context
About time he started talking about investments rather than cash.

An emergency fund of 3-6 months worth of bills. That's a huge percentage of the population out of the equation then

And this is EXACTLY why l'm so passionate on sharing my investing journey, showing what can be doable for the average person (which is exactly what | am) - I've now been investing for 5.5 years, and it's genuinely one of the best decisions l've ever made! 💷
You can't save your way to wealth people. The sooner you realise that, the better! 📈

If someone (let's say the government...) pays each baby £25 per month from birth until aged 67 into a stocks and shares invested pension (let's say all world fund), the total expense paid is about £20,000. The expected pension fund value at retirement would be around £500,000.
Has this been considered as a longer term boost to people's satisfaction?

Cash in a savings account is useless apart from paying bills or peace of mind emergency savings. It’s literally losing money to inflation. It would also be interesting to throw in growth stocks to your chart like Nvidia or rolls Royce or palantir. Most of the sp500 is down it’s being carried by tech stocks. Not that I’m advising people to only invest in those but it’s interesting to compare

I've got a junior stocks and shares ISA for each of my kids which I've paid £100 a month into since they were born, all sat in a passive index tracker. They're all up 50% to 100%. By the time they're 18 they should each have about £50k-£100k saved. University paid for. Deposit sorted.

This doesn't apply to most people who only have enough cash to invest when they are too near retirement to risk it 😞

I have invested for the long term and have lost money because the shares tanked and never recovered and dividends even cancelled. Investment is a gamble!

started investing just in September for the first time ever, I'm far from rich, minimum wage, just had some savings I wasn't sure what to do with. 7k, got some investments in a stocks and shares ISA with the goal to at least break 4% which is what normal ISAs were giving. Even tho only started in September at peak i was up 12.5% in just two months.. crashed all the way down to just 4% and currently at 6.2%. It goes up and down a lot because these are meant to be long term your not meant to check it every damn day. But still even at the lowest point I was at 4% the same as a normal ISA and that was in 2-3 months not a full year.
