If I treated my parents in their old age the way they treated me as a child, it would be called elder abuse.

you calling it the CEM makes me think about ms rachel, and how much vitriol she gets for simply advocating for human rights for children. this feels like a consciousness shift. kids are people ❤️

CEM. Thank you! Children should have rights. I want to learn more about the history of estrangement.

Right? CEM sounds more accurate. Imagine calling women’s rights a trend/epidemic. That’s how silly it sounds to me when it’s just empowering people to have healthy boundaries

a while befor I went no contact with my mother, she actually brought up this "trend of adult children cutting their parents out of their lives" - she quite literally had the very emotions and attitude of 'theres not possible way theres any other way of seeing it other than these adult children just deciding this at random with ill-disregard to their parents, and there could not be anything else"
she truthfully expressed a very real ignorance, to being able to see someone else's point of view, to search for deeper meaning that wouldn't villainize the person, to critically think or abstract any information outside of how she has already decided she feels about it.
rigid. Black and white. its always other people that are the problem.
Theres a deeply FALSE modesty she could portray, admitting mistakes or failure only when the offended party wasnt present or the situation no longer mattered, as long as theres distance and safety. Real sincerity happens when it matters, when its hard, when it can heal the IMPACT that was acknowledged.

Yes. It's not just about the adult children. It's about all children. There's so much abuse to underage children and it's so easily hidden because a lot of people look away. It's even traditional to say "I can do with my children whatever I want", which is absolutely bonkers
