Could you post about the siblings of a parentified child? I am having issues with my sibling being upset with me for cutting myself loose from this caregiver role to my mother and no one is speaking to me now 🙃

And, in my opinion, the estranged parents who are advocating on TikTok about how they didn’t do anything wrong, that’s just another form of abuse. It’s the ‘public’ script flip.

I am Canadian. I called CPS (or the provincial version) on my parents when I was 15 because there were so many instances of abuse that weren’t physical, so when my Dad lost it and actually assaulted me, busting my lip and giving me a nose bleed and dragging me up the stairs by my ear and leaving marks, I called because I finally had “proof”. The social worker came and told me if I wasn’t so bad I wouldn’t have pushed to that point.

When I was 12, I forgot my mother’s birthday. Bear in mind this was before the internet or mobile phones for reminders. I was an only child and my mother gave me the silent treatment for a week and stopped providing care. I was an only child. I had to figure out my own way to school as I had no money for the bus, sneak food from the kitchen at night after she went into her bedroom. I was terrified and had no money, phone or network to ask for help.

My parents were good parents. They gave me everything I could ever need. Except empathy and compassion.

I was completely emotionally neglected growing up. I know though that my parents did the best they knew. So for that they must be forgiven and treated with respect. For me to abandon them is cruel and deliberate....unlike my parents who did not parent to be cruel and deliberate.

I see your content and yes you explain things, you’ve got knowledge and your branding yourself here. I get it. It would be beneficial if you could possibly delve into the generations before parenting styles and what contributed to that. Parents didn’t parent from a void. They parented from something. They parented from the system before them with societal expectations at the time. There was no internet, podcasts, mothering groups, or alternatives. To ground today’s young to mid age adults there needs to be context. You can’t really solve emotional abuse without context. My mother was born in 1933. She was born of rape. Her mother married an Irish drunk off the boat. They faced the depression on the prairie . Came to B.C. and lived in the back of a train car with newspaper on the walls. At 4 my mother waited outside the bars for her parents to finish their guitar gig. This child grew up and by 18 was robbing homes with a partner. (Thank you Ancestry) she married an abuser and they adopted me. My life was with her was 100x worse. I got help. I’ve spent decades healing and dealing with the fall out of permanent damage from her. I left her never to see her again at 26. But context is so important. For your own healing. I feel for that baby, child. I have empathy for that child. And understanding for her ignorance. To a point. The rest was choice. Choice to purposefully abuse. Parents are products of upbringing. Some can’t change because of mental illness . But before kids throw away their parents . You won’t fully heal until you understand them.
