In Austria Mist is also commenly used for trash (Müll). See Mistkübel instead of Mülleimer

"I become the Schnitzel", regularly heard in restaurants... 😂 When that Michael Jackson trial was all over the media, my cousin wanted to ask me, if I thought he was guilty, and asked in German "glaubst du, er ist gültig?" - she's a native German speaker, but lived in Greece her whole adult life with family in USA, so she rarely spoke German at that time. 😁

A lot of these are false-friends, but *not* false-cognates. English "gift" and German "Gift" are false-friends, in that they look similar despite having different meanings, but they are REAL cognates, because they both come from Proto-Germanic "*giftiz" "Bald" is an example of a word that actually is both, as the English and German words have different origins. The German one comes from Proto-Germanic "*balþaz" (cognate with English "bold"). The English word has uncertain origins, but one likely theory is that it is borrowed from an unrelated Norse word.
