It is for contactless CARDS. Not phones. It’s not hard to understand.

Tesco's "pre-charge" at pay-at-pump fuel stations is a temporary £120 pre-authorisation to check you have funds for up to that amount, not the final charge. Your card is authorized for £120, but only charged for the actual fuel you pump, with the unused funds typically released back to your account quickly, though it can take a few days. This system, common at supermarkets like Tesco, Sainsbury's, and Asda, prevents fuel theft and manages customer finances by confirming funds before filling up.

Basically those machines are designed to take contactless, which they do at Asda and Morrisons, but Tesco have chosen to disable payments by contactless for some reason

Contactless limit is £100. Tesco pre-authorise £120 so contactless can’t be used. You’re welcome.

It’s for the Clubcard. It’s not false advertising. Contactless symbol is on the Clubcard too, that doesn’t mean you can pay for your shopping with it.

you just touch it with your card and it automatically takes the process.

You can still use contactless (means you do not need to enter your pin) but only with your physical card, there is only a pre-authorised payment but once you fill up, that amount will then change to the amount corresponding to the amount of fuel pumped into your tank

I work at a garage with these pumps. There is supposed to be a sticker over the contactless logo which says “tap clubcard here” but unfortunately people peel them off. The unit has the ability to do contactless (Asda have the same which are contactless) but Tesco haven’t updated the software to do it yet.

the sticker has been removed that covers up the contact less sign. Tesco pumps have the software to go contactless but the men at the top have decided not to turn it on.
