@jennifergrandismd: Some stories reveal the gap between how supportive someone thinks they are and how their actions impact women’s careers. In this conversation, Howard reflects on leadership searches where equally or more qualified women were passed over. He recognizes the pattern but still struggles to act in ways that create meaningful change. These moments matter because they shape who is seen, who is promoted, and who is believed to be “ready.” #genderequity #genderbias #workplaceequity
I work between 2 fields that are women dominated fields and it is always shocking to me that the administration in these fields tend to be men.

DownTo :
We advertised for an executive level position but were only getting under-qualified male candidates. I suggested we re-advertise for a mid-level manager and finally started to get women candidates who had much more practical experience than the previous male candidates. I think women have a tendency to underestimate their skills. I did the same thing before being specifically asked to apply for a VP role. I wasn’t sure I had enough experience in the industry but had underestimated the skills developed throughout my career in multiple fields. Not only have I met my CEOs expectations, I’ve exceeded my own. I’m glad another woman had faith in me and I make a point now of encouraging women to aim higher.

Did he standup for the women? Fight for them? Protest hiring the men? Advocate for them? Or roll over?
