@unknown_woodworking: The third way I know to make a wooden dowel. If a straight dowel with a nice surface finish is needed the lathe would be my go to. I started with a skew chisel and then switched to a large scraper based on my skill set haha. Finished off using a piece of scrap wood to sand it straight along the surface.
