That’s awful and frustrating. I have had some intensely frustrating experiences with shelters and rescues (and some good ones- Cape Ann Animal Aid). I don’t regret going to a breeder this time, with a small kid I had to be damn sure of temperament. Sucks that rescues do this. They’re not always good people and it’s especially galling to find that out.

That’s disgusting that they waited a month while he’s been wasting away… makes me so angry. I really hope there’s something that can help your boy, but at least he has you advocating and with him until the end.

I am so sorry. Please send his lab work to Texas A&M, we did this for a friend’s dog with the exact issue. She lived to be 13. She ate a special all white food- it looked like gelatin. Hope that helps. Ugh 😪

I’m so sorry. It’s so hard to get them to take meds when they’re not hungry. This makes me so mad for you!!! And for him! It’s bullsh’t. Some of these rescues are crooked af. He’s precious. I bet you guys can turn this around for him! A good veterinary internist—DACVIM—can really make a difference. Do you guys have a MedVet up there?

That’s so weird. As someone who runs a rescue, I want any new dog into the vet within a week. If there’s a problem, I want them at the vet next day. Not a month later!

what rescue? so I know to avoid em. I work in rescue and this is very common when they are brought in from other states. local rescues are taking in animals they can't provide for.

The rescue you were dealing with seems to have some unethical practices. Our rescue places the pets health and comfort above all other consideration. If the rescue can't find the funds to properly care for the pet they should not do further intakes. I'm so sorry for your sweet dog.
