I use dawn on my cast iron skillet after every use. Just cooked an egg on it the other day with no sticking whatsoever.

You don’t wash cast-iron you just wipe it out and put it away. Why would you ever use soap on cast-iron seriously?

I am doing my first restoration today with an electrolysis tank on a BSR #3 6&5/8in pan. I got it down to bare iron and then soaked it in a vinegar bath. There is still a few spots of carbon on the interior. Got any tips for removal? Should I use a lye bath?

If you have good seasoning on the cast iron, you don't need soap to clean it. The seasoning can absorb soap just as it does other flavors. I've tasted soap when I was younger coming from the pan. That's why I don't use it.

Actually my mama always told me she didn't care what anybody said. She said if you don't use soap to wash it, it ain't clean. So she taught me that way from the beginning. You just reseason them.

A while back you ask that I send pics of my cast iron skillet. It had so much build up I was afraid to us it but I cleaned it and now use it all the time. Not as good as you do but it suits me. I’ve had over fifty years
