@jennifer.lauren.rose: Perfectionism isn’t a personality trait, it’s a survival strategy. So many “high achievers” grew up in environments where love, safety, or approval depended on performance. The body learned that mistakes = danger… and excellence = protection. This is why perfectionism feels exhausting. Why starting feels terrifying. Why criticism hits like a threat. Why rest feels unsafe. It’s your nervous system trying to keep you alive and part of the tribe. When the body finally learns safety from within, not performance, perfectionism loosens its grip. You stop overthinking. You stop procrastinating. You start creating again… but from freedom, not fear. If this hits you, your body is speaking. This is your sign to heal the survival pattern underneath perfectionism. #perfectionist #perfectionism #HealingJourney #healingprocess #selflovejourney

Therapist here- great info! Also, it can be rooted in trauma-avoidance of punishment. Needing to be perfect to avoid being noticed.

i didnt had the perfect grades or other things, I Just always felt this internal pressure - and perfectionism in a sense that I need to save everyone, or that kinda its my fault, simply put everything perfect - which actually does not exist - it does and thats maybe peace and harmony what I refer and if I dont make and see that around me I am internally hard on myself. idk

I don’t think this is an easy answer, but could you touch on how to not pass this along to your own children?

I wasn’t the perfect child. But i did grow up with undiagnosed adhd. So your description is still spot on. The thought of being mediocre feels intolerable.

I have had this my entire life but I feel like my symptoms really amplified when I had children. Thank you for your videos, I have learned so much. I no longer feel like “I’m Crazy”. I can now navigate through it!

This was me! I wasn’t allowed to nap and I still can’t nap to this day. And all the things you mentioned. I’ve been on an intense healing journey for 2 years reparenting myself 🦋. I truly do need nervous system rest for my creativity to come back out ✨

I was adopted at 13 after my mom died, I was always "on", realizing recently that I did that so they wouldn't send me back to our alcoholic home.i agreed with everything. I did whatever, put up with bullying, im 55 now. I want to rest so bad

100% me! I’m the eldest daughter and a serial perfectionist. I’m hyper sensitive to criticism at work. I stifle my creativity at home because if I’m taking the time to do something creative that means I’m not being productive. And if I’m not being productive, then all the world’s puppies will die.

This is so scary the way I am able to resonate with every word you said. I did do this for years, pretending to be busy when someone comes in the room. It has affected every aspect of my life. I only show up in friendships and around people when I feel perfect. Would you be able to share what building safety on the inside looks like?

I’m listening like “yup, this is me,” but then in the same breath like, “Wait… am I a bad perfectionist, because I’m not that intense?”. And then I’m like “Does this thought make me ‘enough’ of a perfectionist though”🤦🏻♀️
