I’m 3rd gen Puerto Rican ..I don’t like PR food (Mexican is my favorite) ..I can’t stand salsa music, I Hate reggaeton, I dont speak Spanish, and I don’t connect with PR culture, HOWEVER I NEVER denied what I am when I was asked and most of the time when I did share my grandparents being from Puerto Rico I was usually met with “cmon you ain’t no real Puerto Rican” …today I just don’t claim it anymore, I’ve been rejected too many times and NOW ALL OF A SUDDEN when I say “I’m just from New Jersey” they say “Americans won’t accept you” as if that’s the F’N goal!! They have a smartass answer for everything and I’m over it!

I was born in NJ so I've been told the same and I get called gringa a lot but then when I tell them I went to school in Puerto Rico from 4th grade till I graduated college then they don't know what to say
