Don't look at the whole picture. Cut it into small pieces and move forward step by step without looking at the top of the stairs.

You mean well but there is a fallacy in your proposition. Often those who struggle with motivation and succumb to procrastination find it difficult to persuade themselves. If anything they hate any form of deception which is necessary to deploy the required activation energy . In short , a deeper identity shift is the only effective long term solution IMHO.

this is great, as someone who's gone into analysis paralysis states for years at a time this is a thought I've been having as well. develop a larger framework with set time periods for life and then work against that framework without worrying about the results.why do I do things? because that's the framework stage I'm in

an other simple solution to this, which humans used since the dawn of time is other people, doing things together for the sake of the community and the common goal. you don't need to hack your brain, you need to use already inbuilt mechanism better. think of high performing athletes, they have entire teams behind them aksed with keeping them motivated. no one can do it alone and if it looks like they are, they are actively burning out.

my last boss hated confrontation. i kept asking him to meet and discuss my income. i was in sales and our company was small, and he was running it into the ground. As a result, I was demotivated, and it looked like laziness, and I was fired.

I don't get it. The problem is I don't feel like doing something. What is it that would tell me "just do it anyway"?

This is a great discussion. I have had a stack of projects that are great ideas but I wasn’t able to finish them. A member of my family is from India and he seems to effortlessly glide through his life with unbelievable discipline and happiness. I wonder if the culture he was raised in develops what you are advocating that we do?

the evaluation process is happening in system 1 from implicit memory. there's nothing to not do, demotivation is done before system 2 gets involved

This view nailed it as what I need to focus more on to 'just do it' and not predict reward/result. Thank you

this sounds like mastering NOT overthinking. you don't need to think you just have to DO. but IDK how to help someone stuck

Similar to Nike’s “Just Do It,” the idea could be phrased as “Move first” or “Action first.”
