@a.curious.way: A maximalist’s dream! It is so full of objects that you have to leave any bags or extra items you are carrying in the cloakroom, and handbags go into a carrier bag provided so you do not risk knocking anything over (could you imagine 😱). Once the home of the visionary architect Sir John Soane, the museum has been kept just as he left it in 1837, filled with ancient artefacts, architectural models, paintings, and all sorts of intriguing treasures he collected throughout his life. And it is completely free! Sir John Soane Museum • London hidden gems • quirky London museums • historic London attractions • free things to do in London • Lincoln’s Inn Fields museum
I had the biggest argument with my ex in there. Afterwards I blamed it on the feng shui. 😭

It’s a weird place because the building was Sir John Soane’s London townhouse and offices, and the contents are the things that he collected during his lifetime. Before he died he arranged for a friend who was an MP to get a private Act of Parliament passed, requiring the government to maintain the premises and the collection in perpetuity, and to allow the public to have access free of charge…
