@iamkeyia_: Day one my students are in the lab drawing blood on each other. Yes DAY ONE. Imagine the looks on their faces when I tell them thy are drawing blood tonight. I mean it’s just priceless. I first start by demonstrating on a student so they can see first hand how it’s done. When you’re drawing blood using a straight needle, once you master that, you will no longer second guess yourself, hesitate with the needle, or continue to miss so many good sticks. The Ultimate Phlebotomy ebook was created to help build you up in confidence and skill. And it’s available on Etsy right now. every time I go to get my blood drawn, no matter the location, they wipe the arm with the alcohol pad and then right before they stick the needle in, the tap my arm again to try to feel the vein,( not pulling the skin down, they actually tap the vein area again) so they are reinfecting the area. this is incorrect, right??

I just became a nurse and we never learned how to do this. I’ve always been scared of phlebotomy for whatever reason, but I’ve been watching this video every day and it’s helping me, so thank you.

this might be a dumb question but how do you know when to stop drawing? doesn’t there need to be a certain amount in the tube?

this is so perfect!!! I can't stand when they put gauze and press down before ever pulling the needle out, that causes more micro tearing of the skin

The alcohol pad didn’t touch the place you stuck. We always were taught to do up and down and side ways to make sure to cover all areas! Just a tip 🥰

This is exactly how I was taught by my clinical instructor. I just love the way you palpate and don’t instantly go for the median or superficial vein, attempting to find another vein to avoid rolling veins , the way you keep the needle and hub steady and hold the top hub while inserting the tube leaving a window to see the vial fill up. That tight, pulling of your anchoring is top notch! 🙌🏽 what an amazing instructor and Phlebo ! A lot of people don’t follow this method and lack on anchoring! I’m big on that and I am a very excellent phlebotomist! We need more instructors like u! Excellent job Keyia 👍🏽🤛🏽🔥 You doing us that have passion for Phlebotomy proud

I’m a training supervisor at a plasma center and this is how I ALWAYS teach my trainees to palpate. When you get to feel what the arm feels like, you’ll be able to notice a difference in feel when you get to the vein! It also helps feel the direction and width of the vein by palpating that way too!
