Stephen King and the directors have talked about Maturins involvement. Some of these are right, but I’ve read the dark tower series and Insomnia, and honestly scaling IT against Maturin is pretty ambiguous. The Guardians were created in a counterbalance with the other entities which include IT and the Crimson King which people like to talk about lot about on tiktok as if he’s higher ranked than IT, which he isn’t they’re just different. We don’t know if Maturin or IT is stronger than the other as one embodies creation and the other embodies entropy/destruction. What we do know is that the guardians caught onto the plot of the Crimson King and other entities to take down the dark tower, so IT sent small fragments of itself into Maturins creations, with the intention of like “laying low” as to not be targeted by the guardians. IT planned to consume Maturin’s creations from the inside out, but Maturin still caught onto this and trapped him in some sort of encasing, which breaks when IT crashes on earth, which explains IT’s weakness towards the shards. Stephen King’s cosmology is really ambiguous and trying to scale characters against each other in this story is pretty much impossible as all of these creatures were spawned in a void older than existence
