@karneasadaa: @Bae B.| Philosophy of Love NO HATE TO THIS CREATOR! i wanna talk about the misconception of mestizaje because it can be very dangerous if not understood properly #mestizo #mestizaje #latam #latinos #biracial
No. She’s right. Latinos are very mixed. Indigenous, Spaniard, and African ancestry.

The crazy thing about Latinos is we can have the same parents and one sibling look more indigenous and one look more Spanish. It really creates a lot of identity issues in our culture.

She said nothing wrong. She’s basically saying that we’re biracial, which most of us are, but we’re not treated as biracial. A person of mixed African/European ancestry in the US is treated as biracial, but a person of mixed Indigenous/European ancestry is not. It’s like we’re premixed and have become our own category (Mexican/latino/etc), so we no longer get treated as biracial even though we technically are.

Correction: Mestizaje isn't a concept that only applied to Mexico, it was applied to every virreinato of Spain, even beyond America. I agree with you in everything else, mestizaje was just another form of racism that still affects us nowadays. My country has seen multiple massacres racely motivated against rural and indigenous people bc their skin tone, features and native language (no Spanish) was associated with terr0r¡sts ☠️

I understand what you’re getting at but I don’t think her video had anything to do with this propaganda, she never said racism didn’t exist and that it’s only biracial. Her point is that we’re the only mixed people who have our own recognized identities. Ik she said biracial but she meant multiracial because she didn’t just describe 50/50 she also explained that we are mixed with Spanish, indigenous and African descent and that it can be other percentages. She even mentioned the identity erasure in the census with how they try to split us up. There are other bi or multiracial people who aren’t unified in a single culture because most people that we think of as biracial have like one parent being one race and one being the other and having two separate cultures and identities vs Latinos who are multiple races yet we have the same cultural identity, one parent can have more African and one more indigenous but regardless of that them and their child will share the same cultural identity as they are all Latino.

I think the issue is comparing the US racial structure to the Hispanic racial. Many Hispanic ppl have mixed families. I’m afro-latino and I also have white hispanic family members. That doesn’t stop them from being WHITE bc I’m related to them and than doesn’t stop me from being BLACK bc I’m related to them

Major point of the casta system was that no amount of European blood could erase indigenous or african ancestry… check out torno atras… although tbf most of the casta hyper-specific designations were not actual legal or cultural categories
