It's not that hard IF YOU ARE PUTTING IN THE EFFORT!! My friends do a great job since I've done out again as trans a few months ago. They do mess up at times. Yes it hurts but at the end of the day I know they are doing the best they can to respect my identity. Same with most of my coworkers. Family is going to be the hardest to come around. I'm quite distant from them anyway since I've never been close to them. In wondering if they will put my deadname on my presents this year. Maybe no name at all?? I'm interested to see how things continue to go since I did just come out to them a month ago and they are all quite conservative.

People deserve to put space between those who are actively not seeing you.

I’m really bummed this is happening to you. I know how lovely you are and I don’t understand why someone close to you would choose not to treat you lovingly. Using your correct pronouns is such a simple way to show care 😔

As someone extremely ignorant and not exposed to this, I can 100% appreciate & accept this from someone I am close with & could accept this after this explanation.

yes 🖤 it just gets to a point where it’s very disappointing and you don’t feel truly seen and understood. like truly, most trans people are giving a lot of grace and allowing ample time for adjustment.. but you can tell when someone just isn’t putting in that effort and isn’t opening up to actually see you in your authenticity. you can tell when someone just wants to keep holding onto their old idea of who you are. and when you’re the type of person to really connect deeply with others and always make the effort to understand others in all their multidimensionality, this is the kind of thing that really stings. bc like you said, it’s not about the strangers or the casual, surface level connections… it’s about those you chose to be in connection with, the ones you thought got you and could understand.

Thank you for posting this. “It makes you feel so tiny” really struck home for me. As a DID system, pronouns are extra confusing and hard to navigate for me. I often disregard my own preferences because they sometimes change, but typically, hearing people refer to me as “they/them” is such a good feeling. It feels so correct most of the time.
