Sandor starts calling Sansa a little bird in book one, after she is clearly completely uncomfortable with him but still compliments his jousting. He says she's been trained well, like a pretty talking bird that repeats what she's been taught.

Hi! I can be 100% wrong but i feel that Sandor see himself in Sansa, the little kid that was in love with knighthood and beautiful ladies and that had those nice dreams took away from them throughout pain, abuse and humilation and this is why he is so adamant about knights being nothing but killers/terribles. It is Arya that reminds him of his sister, because she looks like him and because he see himself in Sansa aka Arya's sister. this also explains why he cares for Sansa way more, he identifies in her.

i think the key to how cersei and the hound view sansa is the specificity of the bird. 'little dove' is white and pure and innocent and that's all it will ever be. 'little bird' may be now small and weak, but one day the little bird could be a wise owl, a powerful eagle, or a shrewd vulture, surviving however it can. sansa, to sandor, can be anything, but only if she lives long enough to grow up

The Hound is one of my favorite characters. Sure he's a jerk but I do think his actions are honorable when it comes to protecting children (Sansa and Arya). I think what happened to him as a child really makes him want to be a protector but he also has to be harsh bc of the type of world they live in.

Sandor is the only male character i genuinely love in ASOIAF. Zero hypocrisy, brutal honesty, and somehow more knightly than the knights themselves. And i love how the "little bird" nickname he gave Sansa as a mockery slowly evolved into a more tender affectionate nickname for her🥺💖

Fun fact: the hound actor used to drive around / stay in a remote area that I lived near. It would be an empty rural road for miles and he’d drive by or you’d often just see him at the wee boatyard nearby 😭 he was really friendly with everyone

Sansa is one of the best characters ever written. I’m obsessed with how she’s going to grow and change, I feel like she’s going to be the perfect example of look like the innocent flower but be the serpent under it. I think you said it in a video once, she’s learnt to be the little lady for most of her life, but now we’re watching her learn to play the role while scheming. I hope we get the next books soonish I want to watch her character grow
