@ashleyjames: Well, looks like I won’t be going to the USA for a while… 👀🇺🇸 I have spent years using my platform to call out Trump and everything his administration stands for. I grew up dreaming of being in America - I was sold by the American dream. I still live in hope that the land of the free becomes that again. I’m hopeful when I see @Zohran Mamdani be victorious when he stands for hope and unity. I honestly, I would rather not be allowed in the USA than stay silent while we sleepwalk into fascism. Even though both my siblings and their families live there. Because it is not just about one man. It is about the rise in governments who feel totally comfortable targeting immigrants, trans people, journalists, and even women. It is about how quickly human rights can be stripped back when people stop paying attention. And it is about how little outrage there is when powerful men verbally attack female reporters on live TV. We are watching it happen in the US. And we’re not immune either. We’re watching it happen here in the UK and we need to pay attention. we cannot afford to get exhausted or overwhelmed or apathetic. Our rights depend on our refusal to shut up. One day our children will ask what we did. I want mine to know that I put my neck on the line and stood on the side of human beings who deserve dignity, safety, and equality. ❤️
