@travelreimagined_: We needed to get to Athens immediately… but every boat, plane, and service was shut down for 3 days (nope, NOT an exaggeration! ). And after learning I had internal bleeding, waiting wasn’t an option. So we searched everywhere… and my mom found the only way out: a sunset tour helicopter willing to fly us to Athens. 😳 The views were unreal — crystal water, green islands, all of it — but the pain was intense. Once we landed, the kindest driver helped us navigate the hospital, and after hours of tests we finally had answers. The bleeding stopped 🙏 but I’m not cleared to travel for 5 more days. So… Athens, here we are. **NOTE PLEASE READ‼️: No, I am not exaggerating. This was a holiday weekend, flights did NOT go out on Sunday or Monday and the next one was Tuesday afternoon. If you google flights like we did, you will see some, which I booked at that time of panic (yep… turns out it allows google to find flights from nearby airports (ON OTHER ISLANDS like mykonos)). So no, please do not tell me you see flights. Additionally, yes we could get a ferry but it was gone for the day, the last run had already gone, so we would have to wait another day till the following evening. The doctor urged us to get out today. No, they dont offer helicopter or medical boats for non-residents in certain medical situations. I did not qualify. If you were not there on that day, you do not know what was actually happening. Additionally, the boat or ferry was 5 hour drive with bumping and pushing, which I cannot explain how painful it was on my stomach just to drive in the cab to the helicoper… so the doc recommended no boats, again, if we could… I understand the internet thinks they know best, but trust me, 3 of us were calling, panicking and trying to deal with BOTH my health and the transportation all at once.
