Hmm I think I have a few questions before I'm able to understand this:
1) What is music

Wild guess here, the minor scale is not the major scale 😮

if I play a D - A - E chord progression, in that order, what key am I in? it feels like it should be E maj, but also works for A maj?
noticed the same issue with F - C - G. it feels like it should be the key of G, but its actually the key of C

Fun fact, I count on my fingers to the 6th note and to me, that’s the relative minor to a major note, unless it starts minor. Then writing music I get a lil confused but playing by ear I have zero issues—
I’m enjoying the book but getting stuck. Do you have an online course?

Why did you not make it a G7? According to to what is on the page, you would still have a F# in the G major scale. Without the “7” it’s not mixolydian and doesn’t fit the C major; unless we’re playing around with a Phrygian mode.

The second example has two solutions the key of C Major or G Major.

Yeah, I just start making a major scale with each note and when something doesn’t line up I go to the next. Obviously not a D minor scale. C is the next to try because C on the 1 is C major and D being the next note (the 2) would be D minor. Then just have to confirm G is a major. G’s the 5 so it is major 👍

I was one of the first people to buy your book. I’m still to this day going back to exercises you have in here. I think one important thing for folks to know is that this book going to teach you theory in a way you’ve never seen. But! I know everyone sees Allen’s masterful playing and might think “This might teach me to be like him!” It won’t. It will give you foundational knowledge that you could apply to any instrument. You still need to practice your instrument and the various techniques and styles to get to where you want to be. At the end of knowledge is action. Without it, it’s useless.
