The fact that OP took it and this is how it’s saved, plus keep it for over a decade means that she love and cares for it. Why didn’t the family members take it then? It was in plain sight and was placed there for the dumpster

So the matriarch's cookbook. I inherited my husband's family's when we moved into his grandmother's farmhouse, but I CAUTIOUSLY loan it out to select family members because it's supposed to stay with the house

I understand the sentimental value he did probably didn’t realize that it got thrown away when he seen it. It hit a soft spot. He wanted something to remember his mother by he could’ve been nicer and begged for it, and she could make a copy of it. he didn’t have to be rude and demand.
