I also deal with manipulative family members. Some of them never liked us, but they waited until something happened—now everything is coming to light. In your situation, I hate that you had to go through that, especially being at someone else’s mercy, and she knew your situation. I think no matter what you would’ve done, it was really about control. She kept pushing the issue, and when you told her the truth, she took it as an excuse to prove she was running the show. She thought you were going to beg to stay, but you showed her differently—no problem, you’ll be okay because you’re strong. You didn’t do anything wrong at all.
