@maritimeunionaustralia: $2.50 an hour. That’s how much the crew aboard Carnival Cruises are paid to run cruise ships up, down and around the Australian coast. This is some of the worst exploitation we have ever seen. Carnival has three Australian “home port” ships – to support this fleet, Carnival flies workers in from poor countries, picks them up from the airport and puts them to work on short-term contracts. Crew aboard these ships are often working 300 hours+ per month, being paid as little as AUD $2.50 an hour. Not only are they being given crumbs, but crews have awful, cramped living quarters with poor-quality food and water. Sometimes, the crew under the deck don’t see daylight for weeks at a time. Carnival gets away with this because Australian labour law doesn’t apply to these ships. This same loophole means there aren’t any union agreements covering these ships. We have tried to start negotiations with the company, and they won’t even sit down at the table with us. We're calling on Carnival to do the decent thing and look after these hard-working people, and we need your support! Follow the link in our bio and sign the petition. We need to put pressure on Carnival to come to the table and get the conditions the workers deserve.

But they aren’t Australian. They are from countries where 2.50 a hour is good.

all these people saying cruises would cost more. do you realise if corporate didnt stomp on pay and conditions every 3 years, we may have better pay and conditions to afford more.

Put them on $25 an hr now a cruise will cost you 10 times as much. $15000 for a 10 day cruise per person.

as someone who did it for 9 months I did not get $2.50 I got $15.55 which yes is bad but I get free food get to explore the world and get major discounts on merchandise from the shops so not sure who is getting payed cause the chefs are definitely not on that. The only people that would get close to that are the cleaners but most of them not in a rude one come from real poverty and they loving seeing the world

These cruisers are an affordable family holiday for Thoses who can’t afford air travel for this exact reason as it gives people form 3rd world countries a job with security that is very rare to find for those individuals. If you were to pay Aussies a living wage to work on the cruise ship than nobody could afford to go on a cruise holiday as the prices would 10x

To people saying "if they get paid Australian wages then the cruise price will go up and no one can afford to cruise" - Carnival made a $1.9 billion profit last year 😑

Recently went on cruise and the staff showed us their payslips. They also have to pay for WIFI at a high rate to be able to be in contact with family. I totally agree it not fair. Not for what they do and the exception from the company and guests

leave the cruises alone. we dont want you to jack up our cruise price. imagine going from paying 600 to 6000 for the cruise. and these workers wont have a job to come go to.. unions want their share of memership they dont care about the ship workers to be honest. honestly i dont think the union has a pea of a brain up there. if the cruise ends up costing 6000 then no one can afford to go on cruises and these poor workers wont even earn 2.50 an hour 😭

here's a tip. find a server that's in your designated area. give them $50/$100 what ever on the first or second day. they will look after you and get you what ever you need for the whole cruise.

Instead of getting a petition going,,why don't you go to the union in their countries that the workers are from and see what they will do...
