@seventhstarholistics: Smear tests in the UK do not have to be painful, did you know that there are range of different size speculums that we can use to help make the experience more manageable? Smears are SO important in helping prevent cervical cancer, here is what they test for… First we test for the HPV (human papilloma virus), a very common virus that 80% of people with a cervix will test positive for at some point in their life. It is not a sexually transmitted disease, it is a virus that affects the cervix that can cause pre-cancerous cells. If the virus is detected, the labs will also check for abnormal cells. If any are detected they will be graded and you will be referred to colposcopy so they can have a closer look at the cells (see other video) Cervical cancer is a preventable cancer, but we can only prevent it if you go for your smear test 🙏 Talk openly and honestly to the nurse or doctor who needs to take your smear, and tell them if you are scared about pain. We have lots of different types of speculums we can use to take the sample and we want you to be as comfortable as possible Hope that helps! #smeartest #smeartestUK #speculum #HPV #colposcopy

Never had a choice here in Belgium. One size and it’s a metal one. Really hurts too.

I always ask for the small one, they never listen and just use the bigger one, then they go and get the smaller one because they spend 5 minutes faffing with the bigger one and causing me pain even though I tell them every time to just use the smaller one because the bigger one isn't for me 🙃

I was diagnosed with desquamative inflammatory vaginitis at 33 after years of awful, painful swabs, always ask for more comfortable speculum, you are well within your rights

I got told I am "thin and long" so they just have to shove the normal one up there and I just have to deal with it 🙃

I sort of misled the nurse into thinking I was a virgin (look, that question is complicated) and she used the smallest one for me 😌 didn't hurt at all, if you have no issues with normal penetration it should be fairly painless as long as they're careful
