I went to a Japanese wedding this summer, and my bf’s mom literally has a stash of 10k bills that are perfectly crisp specifically for special occasions

while in Japan I had a single bill throughout my entire time with a crease in the middle. Many 1000 yen bills and just a single one. But many were folded or bent like in a wallet. It seems unimportant outside if handing it ad a gift (like that last guy said)

Not japanese here but as a southeast asian if you give out money for Christmas or Chinese New Year etc we specifically withraw fresh crisp bills for gifting.

お祝いの時は新札ってマナーがあるけど、他はルールでは無い。感覚として、そもそも紙をぐちゃぐちゃに丸めないから、お金は尚更気にするだけ。

普段使うお札は、気にしない。 お祝いや、お正月にあげるお年玉は、ピン札で渡す。 不祝儀は、わざわざ折ってあるお札で渡す。急な不幸に対して、なので。 自分の利用してる美容院は、お釣りをピン札で用意されているし、高級レストランでも見かけるよ👍おもてなしの気持ちが、基本にある。
