I was an essential employee then laid off in 2020. BEST thing that ever happened to me. I got a job briefly as a pizza delivery driver and it was so fun. Got back into biking on paved trails and jamming to the dead, Dead & Co, etc on my rides. Randomly stumbled into a State job for the State of Texas and it’s been so amazing. So getting laid off at 26 (then) was actually a blessing. You will be fine. Enjoy it and learn to be your own best friend. Best advice.

I trained for and ran a marathon. Found new employment (in a new career field!) the week of my marathon. My life was run, apply, interview, repeat for a solid few months lolololol

So sorry to hear about the layoffs. It can be hard with that pressure to enjoy the holidays, but do your best to enjoy that time with friends and family. Most companies won’t be interviewing until January at this point. Keeping listening to Phish and surrender to the flow to keep your light shining in these dark times.

Apply for jobs no later than 6 weeks before you need one. Keep applying until you start. Trust no one that you have a job until you’re working. Also even if you’re on severance no one talks about how hard it is, the depression, sleep issues, motivation. Then you can feel guilty for not making the most of it, but don’t. It’s everyone’s personal journey.

I went on a “reunion tour.” Took a few weeks to spend time with friends and family in different states that I don’t get to see very often. Then after that I locked in to find work while I still had unemployment. It’s definitely rough, but so important to take advantage of having that time. (Also my dog and I went hiking pretty much every morning which was the best).

Everyone kept reminding me about how I’d never have this amount of free time as an adult again which in theory was great even though I was broke 😅 lmao. But I did put a lot of energy into crafts and training for a powerlifting meet.

I'm so sorry to hear that! 😭 I got laid off in January 2024, during the time I was laid off I found a lot of joy in going to the movies in the middle of the day lol. Be prepared to make it rain applications and not to be as precise as you'd normally be, it's a numbers game and timing is a big part of it, your being qualified and incredible to work with shines through most when you get in early!
