For me, I’m indifferent to people I do not care for… It means I could care less what they do…

It's very much a word. The prefix in- means it's the opposite of the root word. Ex: insoluble means "not soluble"; it won't dissolve. Indifferent means "doesn't make a difference". Basically, it's the epitome of IDGAF. Think of how you feel about towards random people you see in ads. Likely, you feel nothing--you're indifferent. Nothing they are doing or saying has any impact on you, or makes a difference to you. Do you pay any mind to a squirrel yelling at you in a tree? It can be confused with being "callous" or "disregarding".

I have a great example of this right now. I have a friend who told me a lie. The lie doesnt hurt or affect me, but it makes me trust them about 1%. It led to an argument because trust is paramount to me. Now, because that lie, didn’t affect me directly, I don’t hate the person. However, I’m also not in a place where I trust them, so, they can reach out or not. If they do, and work to rebuild trust. If they disappear, it’s probably best in the long term. Either way is ok. Indifferent.

Indifferent; so basically it will leave you unconcerned or you don’t care about it much. It usually takes time to reach that after something happened…

For me, Indifference is a result of too much emotional investment wasted. Once that limit is reached, I turn off and become indifferent.

You don’t care about their losses, you don’t care about their wins. You really don’t give them any thought unless you come across them or are brought up in conversation. It’s a release you give yourself from investing in relationships that don’t serve you.

To me, it means that I have no specific positive or negative feeling or opinion about a person yet or anymore. Their existence or doesn't affect my life in any way that means anything to me, until/unless I know or find out that their actions do affect me or someone I care for directly.

I'd use indifference in situations where the person and the opinions of a person makes no difference whatsoever in my life. Sometimes rage and/or anger is "wasted" on things that doesn't really matter.

Think of indifference like room temperature water. It’s not hot and it’s not cold…it’s neutral. So, being neutral means not feeling or caring one way or another...you’re fine with whatever happens. When I’m indifferent to someone then I’m fine if they are in my life or if they are not. If I’m indifferent to a food, then I don’t really have an opinion so therefore I’m not going to be upset if I never eat that food again… but will also be fine if I do eat that food again. I would be neutral. So, I probably wouldn’t go to a restaurant and order that food but would eat if -if it was the only dish offered.

Think “take it or leave it” either way you don’t care.
