The Snake Eater mission was too much for Naked Snake, not in terms of difficulty, but emotionally. The Boss conveyed a thought that was too early for Big Boss to understand. Solid and The Boss had learned it themselves in the war, while Big Boss, a novice in the war, was confronted with that philosophy. If The Boss hadn't said anything, perhaps things would have been different.
