EXPLOSIVE DLAMINI-ZUMA INTERVIEW: WAS THE ANC LEADERSHIP BOUGHT WITH MONEY? Former ANC heavyweight Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma has made explosive allegations about the role of money in the party’s leadership contests, reigniting questions about the legitimacy of the ANC’s leadership processes. Speaking to Mbuyiseni Ndlozi, Dlamini-Zuma discusses the 2017 ANC Nasrec leadership contest and makes serious allegations about the alleged use of money to influence delegates and secure political positions. Among the most explosive claims, Dlamini-Zuma alleges that Fikile Mbalula was seen openly distributing money during the leadership contest. She also refers to an individual allegedly being caught with R500 million in cash before the conference, raising questions about the enormous amounts of money allegedly circulating around the leadership battle. At Nasrec, Cyril Ramaphosa defeated Dlamini-Zuma to become ANC president. Mbalula later became the party’s Secretary-General. Dlamini-Zuma’s criticism goes beyond the 2017 contest. She questions whether money and financial influence have increasingly replaced political conviction, organisational legitimacy and the quality of leadership within the ANC. If the allegations are true, they would raise serious questions about the integrity of internal party elections and whether delegates are choosing leaders based on their political vision and ability, or whether financial power has become a decisive factor. The allegations have not, by themselves, established that Ramaphosa or Mbalula personally bribed their way into office, and the claims would require independent evidence to be proven. But Dlamini-Zuma’s comments raise a question that is likely to fuel debate far beyond the ANC: if money can influence who rises to the highest positions in a governing party, what does that mean for the millions of South Africans ultimately affected by those leadership decisions? 💬 Do you believe money has become more powerful than legitimacy and quality leadership in the ANC, or do you believe these allegations unfairly undermine the legitimacy of leaders elected at Nasrec? #VMNews #NkosazanaDlaminiZuma #MbuyiseniNdlozi #CyrilRamaphosa #FikileMbalula
