I would like for all us childless adults to create mini communities and take care of each other. Have movie nights, have common eating areas if we want to have little dinner parties

We have one child who is disabled and will require lifelong care. I am often asked why we don’t have more children. “Who will care for her when you’re gone?” As if a sibling should be required to take that on.

It’s not guaranteed that if someone has children that those kids will take care of them nor should it be expected.

My response to that is always, “Dang, that was a really expensive gamble you took in investing in a caregiver without any guarantee that you wouldn’t just be put in a home. Do your kids know you only had them to put them to work?”

I’m a doctor and the other day I discharged an older man, lives with his wife. Wife was crying stressed about how they would do at home alone. Keep in mind, they have 2 sons who live local but don’t help them. So even ppl who have kids might be figuring out who will take care of them too!! (On a side note, don’t worry we set up resources to help them at home 🤗)
