@blackbirdcoop: Trading bailouts for an ownership stake in farms makes a lovely revenge fantasy, but it’s the literal opposite of good policy and doesn’t address a single blessed thing that got us in this mess in the first place #fafo #farmers #bailout
Monopolies. Unregulated capitalism. Huh. It's almost as if it's the same problem we have with *everything else* becoming enshittified by corporate greed. 🤔

What a shocker, the problem turned out to be the lack of regulation on corporate consolidation. Wow, I’ve never seen that before, if only there was some kind of body that could make and enforce rules about how people and business do things

You should repost your video where you go into detail about this with your wonderful drawings. That video was sooooooo educational and I’m sure a lot of people missed it.

Basically the same thing happened in Canada. The government let corporations like Loblaws buy everything between the farm and the customer. The amount farmers make hasn't increased much, if any. But these corporations are making record profits year after year while the customers can barely afford to eat.

isnt this literally the govts plan? drive out small farmers through policies so they can privately buy up land and farms and create a larger monopoly

What's the difference between large "family" farms and corporate farms?

It also results in options being reduced at the market end. Most supermarkets offer the same six apple varieties, three types of tasteless lettuce, and speed ripened fruits that are perfectly mediocre.

So what problems would you foresee if we had a government that said food was a human right, and shouldn't be commodified, at least for like raw, non-processed food, and the entire farming industry was subsidized and regulated by the government to where all grown food was available to citizens at the cost of production and labor, no profits?

bailouts should ALWAYS come with either equity or payback periods. why do regular people have to fight tooth and nail for every doller we have or every government doller to support ppl.in need while farmers get tonnes of subsidies. we want our investments to give somthing back to us, not just pay for anouther F350 Laramie that never sees dirt.

Gov in farms is not a good idea bc then our food supply is subject to whatever administration is in office…

The free land and the closed system and the general trajectory toward consolidation — still within farming families, not corporations — is so important to understand before you can unravel what’s going on now. Thanks for articulating it so well.

This lack of regulation of competition since the 70s-80s has been the entire problem with western economies in general.

I saw something on where the subsidies actually go and it all seems to just end up in the pockets of the monopolies
