i always send my kids, but teachers also have to realize some kids really don't care about "fun activities". my daughter is 6, she went to a prek class for a year, then kindergarten last year. both years towards the end of the year, she tells me she is bored. last year she was having a lot of attitude and teacher told me she isn't going to be allowed to do the fun things. my daughter 5 at the time told me she just didn't care. in her head she wasn't learning anything why be at school. this here is also why when im at work i have to be working, if we are slow and i have no work i rather go home. so people really just don't care about the little things, they rather learn and go home. lets normalize not forcing kids to do "fun activities" and not making them feel horrible for not wanting to.

teachers literally tell us to not come and for each hour and a half class we will not do a single thing other than sit there, and as someone with severe adhd it's horrible to just sit and do absolutely nothing and get in trouble for trying to talk since we aren't even doing anything, so yeah i won't be going

my kids school doesn't "take attendance" on half days to incentivize parents to keep their kiddos home.

I mean as a student this is nice in theory but in practice I’m on my phone more if I’m at school on one of those days rather than if I’m at home and why get up super early just to go somewhere else to play on my phone

Isn’t that what recess is for? It seems like if they’re young enough to need to learn social skills (how to lose, win, teamwork etc) then they should be having a recess where they’re learning all those things through play.

what i did on the days I deemed not important is I went and if we were truly not doing anything important then I either talked with friends or hung out with a staff member

As a teacher you should know kids deserve a break from work and deserve a break from people. People are over welling. Watching your peers go do stuff why you sit in a class is heartbreaking. Kids deserve a break half days are optional. Some people also don’t have time to come get their kid at lunch. People go out of town those days. Some kid DO NOT LIKE OTHER KIDS. Some of those kids are just watching age appropriate movies why you assuming they all are on electronics. If it doesn’t count against them let them have a well deserved break from a place none of them wanna be at that over welling,life risking and tiring. Kids learn social cues ever day and showing up on a half day ain’t gonna make or break it. A making your kid do anything is just stupid that’s how you build hate towards you. Pick a choose battles. A half day is a battle that’s not worth it. Definitely if they are gonna be forced to wake up early and run around for 3-4 hours then their parent has to come get the on their lunch break. Let kids have a break that are humans stop forcing all kids to be people person. Some people are born to be individually alone because people are overbearing and annoying. School already forces kids to get up early even tho it’s been proven that brains don’t immediately jumpstart that early. So a half day let the kid stay home and simply mind your business and stop telling people that half days are import if you are just gonna let the play games. They can play games safely at home where an angry person can’t take something out on them. Where they can regulate emotions without being punished. Where they don’t have to watch their friends get to go do something fun if they have work that needs to be done. Genuinely kids need a break.

the half days are stupid please stay home ill pay them to not come if i legally could we aren't allowed anything 'fun' but the staff is required to clean the whole room. reset and prep for the day they come back the new semester
