@itsreallyorga: I just wish my parents were there for me. Especially having eight siblings and only three of them showing up on the biggest day of my life. I was emotionally hurt, but I tried my best to stay focused on my wedding. I cried a lot. I’ve learned that people only show up if they truly want to. A lot of people will congratulate you online, but won’t show up in person. Still, I genuinely appreciate every congratulations and all the support even from people I don’t know. #brideprice #africanparents #traditionalwedding #foryoupage
As an African woman, if he didn’t pay for your bride price you’re clearly ain’t married

hmmm I also didn't want my bridal price however when a man sees how you disrespect your family, he will eventually do the same.

As much as you would require him to buy you an engagement ring your parents have the right to demand the bride price. Stop deminishing our culture .

It might seem okay now, but as time goes by, you'll understand. Be mindful, traditions are traditions, and culture is still culture. Even if your partner doesn't have the required money, any amount is okay. The spiritual and physical blessings and favor from parents will follow you. Don't think that because you were raised in the western part, you can ignore this, as African cultures remain the same.

The comments are not it 🥴 I get that it is important to honour our traditions and honour our parents, but I don't agree with parents being so hell bent that they refuse to attend the wedding as that could fracture the relationship they have with their child.

Bride price is culturally important. To be honest, it is the main wedding recognised by African culture. It gives respect to your parents and family. Ps: it doesn’t have to be big, flashy or anything of sorts.

Bride price is not about paying for your parents taking care of you… it shouldn’t be expensive or exaggerated. It’s a token/gesture to prove to your parents that he is taking you away from them and he PROMISE to take care of you no matter what… and with you accepting his proposal you promise to do the same! And commit to each other! ( translation in modern world: if you take something that belongs to someone you pay for a deposit and you make sure to keep it intact and well just as it was given to you and you loved it.. that’s someone’s precious gem so take excellent care!). This proofs your man respect your family to commit to you and will ensure he abides to take care of you. Then you get both family blessings… there is 2 sides to each story and would like to hear the full story..
