they purposely mislead the friends. if you go to a restaurant you don't need to be told order anything you want. obviously you can order anything you want. when someone says that to you it is an insinuation they are paying

If youre invited to a wedding/birthday party with a private venue- you generally dont pay. The hosts were misleading and made it seem like the restaurant was closed and pre paid for this event- the “order whatever” comment supporting this. Im interested to know what the official invite said.

This reminded me of an ex-friend who invited me to her favourite singer’s concert in her town. I didn’t want to go cause I didn’t know the artist, but she insisted. I asked about the price, and she told me not to worry because she had two tickets for both of us. I thanked her for the offer, told her so, and even bought her drinks during the concert to show my appreciation. After I got back home (another 1h drive), I received a message asking me to pay her back. Like, what? We are no longer friends. I don’t mind paying my part, but be honest upfront so I can decide whether it fits both my budget and my free time 🤡
