this would only happen if you already had a chip or crack. your windshield is designed to expand and contract, hence the expansion allowance around the edge.

actually my windshield cracked like this because of how hot it was outside and in my car and i alr had a small chip or crack and the pressure just made it crack all the way

ilIt is better to have the defrosters on when it is cold to warm the glass gradually than to shock it with hot air once the car is warm.
