@deadhost.exe: The "Elephant's Foot" is a massive, highly radioactive mass of corium formed during the Chernobyl nuclear disaster in April 1986. Located in a steam distribution corridor under Reactor No. 4, it is composed of melted nuclear fuel, concrete, sand, and core shielding that flowed like lava before hardening. Upon its discovery in December 1986, the mass was emitting approximately 10,000 roentgens per hour. At that intensity, 30 seconds of exposure would cause dizziness; 300 seconds would be fatal. The radiation was so intense that it interfered with electronic equipment, and early photographs are grainy because the radiation physically damaged the film. Workers had to use a remote-controlled camera and shoot around a corner using a mirror just to prove it existed. Even today, nearly 40 years later, it remains one of the most toxic and dangerous objects on the planet, slowly melting through the concrete foundation of the tomb.

I wonder if the radiation will ever dissipate so people can explore in the far future

What's crazy is that they narrowly avoided another explosion that could potentially trigger the other reactors to explode too and will probably poisoned half of europe

film has sparks of light from the radiation. the documentary on HBO talks about how most the reels have flashes throughout them caused feom high levels of radiation.

It's a unique metal called corium created from melted nuclear fuel. if it had penetrated the concrete and penetrated the ground it could've killed millions
