I rented a car that beeped if you opened the back door before driving and didn’t open it again when you locked the door. Like a reminder to check the backseat. Cars should have more of these safety precautions, for the safety of children and animals

I read the car one shortly before my first baby was born. It definitely convinced me that I could make this mistake, too, and I learned all the tricks to prevent it - leaving my bag in the backseat, special stuffed toy in the front seat, playing kids’ music until there were no kids in the car, always texting daycare when the kids weren’t coming so they would call if they hadn’t heard from me, etc.

There was a great article called My Family had a Slave that was about a guys family who immigrated to the US and his parents brought over a lady to help be a nanny and essentially forced her to be their slave and didn’t pay her. Really interesting read

Fatal Distraction - I read that article when my first son had just been born and it HAUNTED me. I remember waking my husband up in the middle of the night to hash out a plan to make sure it never happened to us.
