Ok…. Let me try this. If you are running at 10mph and throw a ball at 40mph. What is the speed of the ball reference to you? 40mph right? Now what is the speed of the ball reference the ground? Well that would be 50mph. Your original speed plus the speed you imbued the ball. So you see, the rocket is also moving at the same speed of the earth already and the fuel only makes it go faster front the earths reference frame.
