I hate that legally blind is based on corrected vision. glasses aren't free. if my glasses break, im impaired until the point I can scrape up enough to get a new pair. but it's not considered a disability because a rich person wouldn't have the same obstacle

Legal blindness has to due with being unable to correct your vision. As long as you can correct it to a certain point you’re good. I’m over -11 in both eyes with astigmatism and still corrected to 20/30 so not considered legally impaired.

you need to get LASIK, i was -10 and -9.5 and they gave me perfect vision, use the wonders of modern medicine!

We have the same prescription! I have to get contacts because glasses cost SO much after my prescription is added. Even with fantastic vision insurance, $150 frames turn into $800. Contacts are like $300 for the year for me

Legal blindness isn’t based on your corrected vision. You are legally blind if even WITH glasses you see worse than around -2.0

When your eyes can’t be corrected by glasses or surgery or other means anymore or you lose enough peripheral vision. I’m at this point and registered SI. My remaining eye has a very high script that doesn’t correct fully

Legally blind is subjective. You could be deemed legally blind by the BMV and have good eyesight.

i have to have torics, the kind that comes from Italy or somewhere across seas 😭 I asked about LASIK and my Dr told me it would at least get me to a strength where I could have regular prescription contacts instead of the expensive special ones. idk if it's worth it . . I have really bad astigmatism.

The least they could do is just give glasses out for free at that point. Without them you would not be able to do anything without help.

I am -10.50 & -9.50 in my left and right respectively. Mine has made it clear to me I may as well be legally blind. he was amused when I argued I could still see shapes and colors with no glasses or contacts and didn't run into much😅
