My Slavic grandma used to tell me stories about how when the ottoman Empire ruled over our country, slavic baby boys would be kidnapped from their families and forced to be soldiers so that the ottoman Empire didn't need to use their own people to fight wars for them, they used their enemies people (don't know if its all completely true, all I know is that grandma's stories scared me)
