@haydendumaw: This is a Black Heron using a hunting technique known as canopy feeding. By crouching low and spreading its wings like an umbrella, it creates shade over the water that reduces glare and can even attract fish seeking cover. Because of this behaviour, many people have started referring to it as the “umbrella bird.” The heron can then strike with remarkable speed and precision — a simple, elegant solution shaped entirely by purpose and necessity in nature. It was one of the coolest moments I’ve witnessed in nature, especially having never been aware of this behaviour before.
